Meet Dr. Kaufman
Dr. Keith A. Kaufman is a licensed psychologist in Washington, DC and Virginia with expertise in clinical and sport psychology.
He received his B.A. in both Psychology and Exercise & Sport Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was the recipient of the Patrick F. Earey Award to the outstanding Exercise & Sport Science major in 2002.
Dr. Kaufman obtained his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2008 from Catholic University. He did his predoctoral internship at Virginia Tech where he trained under the Athletic Department's sport psychologist and received the American College Counseling Association special commendation for meritorious service following the 2007 shootings.
In addition to his training services, Dr. Kaufman has remained involved at Catholic University as a Research Associate. He is the co-director of a sport psychology research lab in the Psychology Department and has taught an undergraduate Sport Psychology course there for over a decade. His primary program of research centers on mindful sport performance enhancement (MSPE), the influential sport psychology treatment he has co-developed. Dr. Kaufman has published numerous articles and chapters on MSPE, and a new book he co-wrote is now available to order.
Dr. Kaufman is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. He is a co-founder of the DC Psyching Team, providing on-site mental skills training to runners competing in distance events, and was named sport psychology consultant for the prestigious Academy One Goalkeeping. He has also been consulting with The True Athlete Project during its development.
